NEELKARI/
HAND EMBROIDERY
2024
Hands-on project as a part of a 2 Week theory based Traditional Indian Textiles course
An embroidery collection inspired by the soft and intricate running stitches of Kantha, and Sashiko embroidery.
This project intends to discover the storytelling of slow hand stitching, the possibilities that a simple running stitch has in creating textures, tactile experiences and visual depth, narrating a story through repetition and contrast in directions, density and layering.
Hand dyed indigo fabric and cotton yarn was used for some samples, exploring techniques and compositions. Muslin was used as the base fabric for other samples with variations in the number of layers, density of stitches and compositions.
