Classroom Project

Apparel Design Collection

/EKA

2025

Overview

The project focused on developing an apparel collection based on WGSN’s 2027 consumer profiles and emerging trends. Consumer behaviours and profiles were studied and personally interpreted to define a target consumer, followed by identifying brands that aligned with the resulting profile.

EKA was selected for an in-depth study of its aesthetics, philosophy, collections, and market positioning, alongside a competitive analysis. Mood boards and concepts were then developed to explore how the brand could respond to the evolving 2027 consumer, followed by silhouette, embroidery, print, and surface development. The process culminated in a final ensemble with fabric recommendations aligned with Eka’s aesthetic and direction.

Personal Derivation from WGSN

The year 2027, will bring in a new consumer archetype, an evolution of the Autonomists of 2026, the Conventionalists. They will move quietly against the current of modern life, to the rhythm of the analogue and the slow, seeking rest, creativity, ritual and the comfort of deliberate days, against the global polycrisis.

Success will be measured not in profit or pace but instead in return on energy, guided by Witherwill; a longing to be free from constant responsibility and endless demand.

They will cherish phone-free spaces and moments of authentic discovery. Their habits and actions will reflect what is enduring and intentional, favouring activities and spaces that echo resilience and repair, of continuity over novelty.

For this cohort, life will unfold gently, in harmony with natural cycles, shaped by continued tradition yet open to quiet reinvention.

Intended Consumers

Why EKA

After a tumultuous first half of the decade, fashion in 2027 will sit at the intersection of interconnected polarities, lightness and darkness, nature and technology, the ancient and contemporary.

Consumers will be navigating a polycrisis era, economically, socially, environmentally, mentally, searching for grounding through earth-derived hues, emotional durability, and meaningful connections.

At the same time, they will seek to playful pastels and expressive colours that bring optimism and freedom. This duality in mood and colour creates an opportunity for Eka to build collections that are both rooted and restorative, yet open to romance, play, and renewal.
